description:
Side 1 of 2. Edna Rowe (formerly MacLatchi, born Troutman) was born on December 19, 1922 in Reading, Pennsylvania. She married her first husband before he was shipped out for overseas service as a B-24 pilot. After two months as a war bride, her husband died in a plane crash at sea, and this pushed her to enlist. She joined the Navy WAVES in December 1943. After going through basic training at Hunter College in New York, she was stationed in Washington, DC working in communications. She remained in this station for the rest of the war and the entirety of her service, receiving her discharge in October 1945. When she left the service Rowe had reached the rank of yeoman 2nd class, and for her service she was awarded an American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
