description:
Regina Maria Ridley (formerly Klosek) was born on June 14, 1921 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She joined the Army Nurse Corps in March 1943 at Fort Devens in Massachusetts, where she worked at the base hospital for a year. From there, she was shipped off to Europe with the 2nd Evacuation Hospital. This station took her from Glasgow, Scotland through Cardiff, Wales and towards London by D-Day. 17 days later, she arrived on mainland Europe on Omaha Beach, setting up their tent city on June 28. They spent the next several months following the front lines through France and reaching Paris on September 27. From there, they entered Belgium and initially set themselves up in Eupen. They remained in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, only five miles from the front line. On March 31, 1945, they made it to Leipzig, Germany, which was her last major station before returning to the United States in June and receiving her discharge in August 1945. When she left the service Ridley had reached the rank of captain, and for her service she was awarded an American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and a European Service Ribbon with a silver star.
