description:
Side 2 of 2. Marjorie M. Muzzillo (formerly Bueker) was born on June 26, 1923. In 1943, she was living and working in Kansas City, Missouri when she decided to enlist in the Marine Corps Women’s Reserve, getting her parents’ permission to do so after her 20th birthday. She went to basic training and Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) School at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. She scored well on clerical aptitude, so her first assignment was at Camp Lejeune as a records clerk for the Women’s Battalion. Her duties as records clerk included consolidating company and battalion change sheets, maintaining muster roll cards, and validating muster rolls every month for each company. Men were always very respectful to the women, and they had regular dances together so everyone could socialize. She remained at this station for the entirety of her service, receiving a discharge in December 1945. When she left the service Muzzillo had reached the rank of sergeant, and for her service she was awarded an American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
