description:
Jean Jackman (formerly Merrill) was born on February 7, 1923 in Syracuse, New York. She enlisted in the Marine Corps Women’s Reserve in May 1943, and after boot camp at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina she went to link operator school in Atlanta Georgia. From there, she was stationed at Cherry Point in North Carolina as a link trainer instructor, which she pursued partially because she was determined not to do paperwork. She remained at this station until her discharge in September 1945. When Jackman left the service she had reached the rank of sergeant, and was awarded an American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. No transcript of this interview is currently available.
