description:
Tape 2 of 4, side 2 of 2, this is the edited interview audio. Mary Olene Glover enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps in 1943 and served as a Medical and Surgical Technician attached to the 44th WAC Hospital Company in Jackson, Mississippi. Army transport planes shuttled wounded GIs in from all fronts including some men that had been POWs. Her company met them at the airport and brought them back to the hospital by ambulance for medical and surgical care (1945 MASH Co.). She remembers one POW who was too weak to brush his own teeth. She stayed at this hospital for the duration of her service, being discharged in 1945. In 2001, she was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame. When she left the service Mary had reached the rank of sergeant, and for her service she was awarded an Army Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. No transcript of this interview is currently available.
