description:
Grenada Conflict - "My most memorable experience was the morning that I woke up in the barracks in Orlando, FL. I knew my life would never be the same. I thank God for letting me make up my mind to enlist in the Navy. The good and bad times in the military prepared me for life in the real world. The military changed my life and I am proud to have served in the Navy now. In 1982, after attending Yeoman school, I was assigned to the Senior Enlisted Academy, NETC, Newport, RI. I was the only woman and only yeoman who was not a petty officer and the first and only African American enlisted Navy staff member. I assisted with all duties: library, educational materials, personnel records, correspondence, and name tags. Invasion of Grenada, October 25-28,1983."
