description:
Patricia “Pat” Lampman (formerly Krause) was born on May 6, 1923 in Bemidji, Minnesota. She joined and trained in the Cadet Nurse Corps in 1944, and moved into the Army Nurse Corps in 1945. She worked at a hospital in Hastings, Nebraska for three months before shipping out with 345 women. The trip to Saipan took them 40 days, and they replaced the nurses who were at the 39th General Hospital there. She was assigned to the psychiatric ward. Patients were generally brought in by ship or by air, and they never had a problem with supplies. When the war with Japan officially ended, they also treated POWs at the 204th General Hospital in Guam. They returned to the United States soon after V-J day, and she was discharged from Fort Sheridan, Illinois in 1946. She returned to Hastings and worked for three months as an office nurse, then spent the next 55 years working with ear, nose, and throat doctors until she retired. When she left the service Lampman had reached the rank of 2nd lieutenant, and for her service she was awarded an American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Overseas Service Bar.
