description:
Side 2 of 2. Ida M. Clark (formerly Britton) was born on April 8, 1910 in Plankinton, South Dakota. In 1941, she was working as a nursing instructor when there was a call for nurses to join the Red Cross, which she decided to do. She took a leave of absence in the spring of 1941, and helped out her family until she was sent to England later that year. She was on one of 35 ships headed to England when Germany attempted to invade Russia. They disembarked in Liverpool and went to London the next day, where she stayed for the summer. She transitioned into the Army Nurse Corps in 1942, and was stationed in Salisbury, England. It is a bit unclear when she returned to the United States and why she was discharged, but when she left the Army Nurse Corps she had the rank of 2nd lieutenant. When she left the Army Nurse Corps, Clark worked part-time teaching nursing as she did before the war. For her service, Clark was awarded an American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
