subject:
Marine Corps Women's Reserve
description:
Clarinne Mazzetti was born on July 27, 1915 and enlisted in the Marine Corps Women’s Reserve in July 1943. She went to basic training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and was set to relieve the movie camera operator. When she arrived, however, she only had half a day to teach her everything, so it took some trial and error after her first attempt at shooting didn’t go well. After hashing it out that first time, she didn’t have any trouble running the machine again. Her first assignment after basic training was at Camp Lejeune to train as a bugler. She played trumpet in high school but had never played a bugle, so she was excited to learn. As she trained, her favorite thing to play was taps. After being Camp Lejeune, she was stationed at Henderson Hall in Washington, DC as a bugler. She remained at Henderson Hall until her discharge in November 1945. Mazzetti reached the rank of sergeant, and for her service she was awarded a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
